Mahalo and Reminders

Student-Led Conferences
Mahalo for attending our Student-Led Conferences! The students worked hard to prepare for the conferences and their hard work paid off. They all did a wonderful job sharing their goals, progress, and work samples. We hope you enjoyed the conferences and now have a better understanding of what we are doing in third grade.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the "Parent Stars and Wish" form. The children are anxious to hear your praises and suggestions. We would also appreciate it if you would fill out the conference evaluation and SCC council forms.

Please return the portfolio and its contents by Friday or next Monday at the latest. You may keep the report card and Animal book that the children made.

Fire Safety Booklet
The deadline for the Fire Safety Book is Friday, Oct. 26. All B23 students must return the booklet because it is being graded.

Halloween Costume Contest- Oct. 31
A lime green flyer went home today with guidelines for children who would like to enter the Halloween costume contest next Wednesday. Please read the flyer and let me know if you have any questions. In addition to the guidelines on the flyer, students will not be allowed to have any type of weapons (knives, daggers, swords, guns, etc.) as part of their costumes.

I would like to suggest that the children bring a change of clothes if they are wearing a costume on Wednesday. Many times, the children become very uncomfortable in their costumes and a change of clothes would allow them to change into something more comfortable.

HSA Testing
Round 1 of HSA testing runs from Nov. 5 to Nov. 30. Our class is scheduled to test on Nov. 19, 20, 27, 28.
Please prepare your child for testing by:
  • Getting a good night's rest the night before testing.
  • Eat a good breakfast.
  • Being in school on time. (Latecomers will not be allowed to enter the testing room once the test begins.)
Thank you for your cooperation in helping prepare your child so he/she can do his/her best!

Music Videos

We have such talented musicians in our class! The students created wonderful musical instruments at home. On Monday, they had the chance to play their instruments in small groups. Their task was to create a rhythm using all the instruments in their group. We hope you enjoy the videos of each group!

Special Lunch

Yesterday, two special students from each third grade class were chosen to have a special lunch on the cafeteria stage. Our special students were Reilly and Kaydence. They were chosen because they display exemplary behavior in the cafeteria. Here's what they said about the honor:

Reilly said, "It was fun because we got to order our food and milk and Mrs. Watanabe brought it to us!"

Kaydence said, "It was fun because we got free cookies and we got to order our food!"

Congratulations, Reilly and Kaydence!

New Reading/KidBiz Log

We have a new combination Homework AR Reading and KidBiz Log. I'm sorry if this is causing confusion, but I'm trying this to see if this form will make it easier for the children to record their homework reading. The children are required to complete 2 KidBiz articles with 75% or better on their first try AND read Accelerated Reading books for 20-30 minutes each week on Monday to Thursday (even on holidays) for homework. They must fill in the form stating the beginning, middle, and end of what they read. A couple of sentences for each part is fine.

Please initial the forms daily. They will be collected each Friday.

Students who do not have internet access at home, can try the following: 1) Go to the Computer lab before school, 2) Use the computers at the Kaneohe Public library, 3) Use the computers in class during free time or silent reading block, 4) Stay in at recess one day a week, 5) Stay after school with prior arrangements.

We will be participating in the Pizza Hut Book It program which runs from October to March. Students who turn in their completed Reading Logs each week will receive a Pizza Hut certificate for a free personal pan pizza at the end of each month.

I'm sorry, but because of formatting issues I am not able to copy the forms onto the blog. I will attach the forms to the email.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
